Elliot vs. George Grasser 1. d4 g6 2. e4 Bg7 3. Nf3 c5 4. Nc3 Qa5 5. Bd2 cxd4 6. Ne2 Qb6 7. Bf4 e5 8. Ne5 Be5 9. Be5 Qa5 10. c3 Qe5 There was also a second game but we didn't jot down he moves for that one. The video output cable from my phone went missing, so no on screen display. Also the input to it was still lagged, despite somewhat of a rewrite to address that. The next episode might have us pushing move content out to the fractal website but it's freaking hard to get up to a production level of quality. On the plus side, the camera mount is addressed (that duct tape sure wasn't steady!) and the focus for it is dialed in, including the fine adjustment. We don't have high definition in the studio but it's real decent for standard definition. Also check out these youtube channels youtube.com youtube.com With the crew today was also Josh as the manual Camera3 operator (wide shot.)

Chess Match #4 + #5 vs Jswisher87 (1166) - (1248) Double Header
Chess Match #4 + #5 vs Jswisher87 (1166) - (1248) Double Header
Two games of chess today. First one went really quick, second one took a little bit longer because its kind of ugly. Dude clearly wasn't very good. I'm not TRYING to play noobs, but so far thats all I've seemed to find. I suppose on one hand I'd like to continue to "warm up" on bad players, kinda like how a Baseball player recovering from injury starts in Triple-A before going back to the Major League roster. Just full of baseball references in this video eh? Second game did have one flashy part however. I had a couple directions of attack for some lethal damage, and I was able to plot/predict his moves to maximize my effectiveness and it worked out great. After that I proceeded to turn into a sloth or something, but you know me, I like my defense and prefer to squeeze an advantage out over time to mercilessly choke somebody out of a chance. I know its just little pieces and all, but chess WAS originally a game for generals, and had very high correlations to war. Winning team played soccer with opposing defeated kings head between city gates too. Dark ages were brutal.

'MidEast strategy: political chess, not American football'
'MidEast strategy: political chess, not American football'
The arms black market has been flooded with weapons from war-torn Libya, says Russia's special envoy to Africa Mikhail Margelov, citing concerns voiced to him by local authorities. "I recently visited Nigeria, Mali, Mauritania and Morocco, and for these four countries what is happening in the desert is a real nightmare. One of the tribal leaders said to me, what happened in Libya undermined the market. I asked what market? He said, 'Today a Soviet or Chinese-made MANPAD [man-portable surface-to-air missile, like the American FIM-92 Stinger -- RT] costs the price of two Kalashnikovs... It's a real problem, because arms trafficking can end up somewhere in the south of Africa or somewhere in the south of Europe," the diplomat told RT's Sophie Shevardnadze. He says the impression he gets from post-war Libya is that of a fundamentally divided country. "Last time I was in Libya in December... I spent the whole day in Tripoli, and I still have a feeling that I was in a very fragmented city. There are three or four militias hating each other, competing with each other, sometimes shooting at each other. It seems like the pieces of the Libyan political puzzle do not fit together," he said. Chess Traps- Lasker Trap
Chess Traps- Lasker Trap
Today we look a chess trap called the Lasker Trap which comes from the Albin Countergambit against white's Queen's Gambit. If white is not careful than he can find himself in a lot of pain very quickly and with the help of an underpromotion on the 7th move, black can have the white king running all over the board. It's a great trap for black.

Chess Opening: QGD Marshall Defense 4.Nf3
Chess Opening: QGD Marshall Defense 4.Nf3
In this video, the second of a two-part series, we will examine the Marshall Defense in the Queen's Gambit Declined. 1.d4 d5 2.c4 Nf6 3.cxd5 Nxd5 and now the previous video saw 4.e4, which is the right idea but 4... Nf6 5.Nc3 e5! gives Black a decent game. The more approved move is 4.Nf3, controlling e5 and preparing e4. We will look at 4.Nf3 e6, 4.Nf3 Bg4, and 4.Nf3 Bf5. These lines all appear to lead to a White advantage. In summary, the Marshall Defense is not seen among strong players today because it allows White to take control of the center at very little cost.

This is my last round game from the Evanston Chess Adult Open today, played with White against Bill Brock(1999). Yeah, I do lose games against non-masters occasionally. ;-) This is a very interesting game though, hope you learn as much from it as I did.
